Staff Attorney - Agricultural Worker The candidate will provide poverty law services to clients who are agricultural workers in Montana. Will build an outreach campaign as well as provide advice and representation to eligible workers. Interview, meet with, advise, and represent eligible clients on civil matters. Develop and maintain specialized knowledge of the special legal issues faced by agricultural workers. Provide services ranging from brief counsel and advice, to more extended representation on core legal issues affecting organization clients, both in-person and by phone. Compose correspondence, pleadings and other documents. Research the law and prepare memoranda. Work with other organization staff to recruit, train and support pro bono attorneys when appropriate. Participate in organization's statewide initiatives and impact work, and implement grant and contract requirements through casework. Conduct outreach to agricultural workers, including developing a statewide outreach plan. Collaborate with community partners who also work with agricultural workers.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have a Law degree and current license to practice law in Montana or willingness to become licensed to practice in Montana. Prior legal services experience is preferred, particularly experience working on public benefits legal issues. Should have a willingness to assume a varied caseload. An understanding of the civil legal needs of low-income people, including the unique needs of populations that experience particular barriers to access to justice systems is needed. Should have knowledge of substantive legal areas affecting low income people. Ability to effectively communicate, to motivate others, and to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people with varying perspectives, and experience and expertise is needed. Should have ability to travel within Montana and out of state, occasionally overnight. Must have high level of proficiency in oral and written Spanish.
