National Program Director Candidate will drive issue selection and development to maximize the reach and effectiveness of the organization’s organizing efforts. The Director works with the organization’s public brands, including Environment America, USPIRG, and Fair Share, to implement programs and campaigns. Develops program and policy, fundraises, build membership, and recruits and trains other staff. Evaluate expert opinion and research on the issue, create viable policy solutions, and propose the right political strategy and messaging. Work with organization’s 20+ state offices and federal lobbying offices to find legislative sponsors and draw up bills to enact programs. Assess opportunities for building political support for agenda through coalition-building, grassroots organizing, media coverage, and message development. Work with organization’s Political Department and campaign staff to craft winning strategies. Build alliances and relationships with NGO partners, academics, and elected officials to foster community adoption and prioritization of organization’s programs. Write grant proposals, build relationships with foundation staff, and meet with major donors. Work with citizen outreach staff to build and develop membership base. Recruit new staff and volunteers. Oversee program staff to develop and implement work plans; provide training and leadership development opportunities.
Qualification and Experience
Candidate must have 15+ years of professional experience in campaign or program development, grassroots organizing, organization building, and/or campaign politics. Related advanced degrees may count towards experience. Advanced degrees like a J.D. degree or a Master’s degree are preferred.
