Business Affairs Manager, Education The candidate will responsible for securing rights clearances in connection with the marketing of Apps, iTunes U, iBooks, Music, TV programs, Movies, Podcasts, Safari content, and other third party content. This content is used in Education marketing communications including web, direct marketing, social media, sales presentations, videos, events, retail and channel partners. Liaises with the Education team and internal Marketing Communications (“Marcom”) teams to understand what the deliverables are, and how the content will be used in each piece, in order to negotiate appropriate usage rights. Works closely with other teams within Apple — including Education Content and Marketing teams, Marcom brand teams, as well as local teams in iTunes to secure appropriate content. Consults with Apple’s Legal group in researching trademark, privacy and legal issues, and providing the business context for contract negotiations. Works closely with the Content Production team, as well as vendor agencies, to develop and manage an appropriate workflow to ensure assets are tracked, shared across creative disciplines, and accurately distributed. Managing the Education segment of the Business Affairs function within the U.S. Business Affairs team. Coordinating and planning appropriate specific content that is suitable for Apple’s worldwide marketing use. Securing rights clearances with a diverse set of content partners in the U.S., as well as some partners outside of that market. Maintaining excellent relationships with partners and communicating with internal teams to understand what the deliverables are, and how the content will be used in each piece, in order to negotiate appropriate usage rights. Coordinating with local and US based Content Production and Producers to support internal rights management systems and ensure that assets are tracked, shared across creative disciplines and accurately distributed.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: B.A. or B.S. Degree. 10 years of prior experience in rights related positions in the advertising and/or the entertainment industry. Strong knowledge of copyright, trademark and licensing in the area of entertainment or advertising law with particular emphasis on digital content/technology initiatives. A solid understanding of intellectual property rights (a law degree is helpful but not required) ideally gained from experience working in a marketing, advertising and/or agency environment. Strong knowledge of image and photography licensing. Self-motivated and flexible. Excellent communication skills, able to deal with rapid change in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. Exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills and a strong attention to detail. Successful in working in a creatively driven organization. Highly collaborative, with strong communication skills, and a creative problem solver. Extensive up-to-date industry knowledge on licensing issues in a wide variety of media - including interactive. Strong negotiation skills. Experience of drafting licensing agreements. Understanding of technology law and developments as they pertain to IP issues in advertising and marketing. Understanding of industry standards and related agreements around distribution of traditional media. Basic understanding of international copyright standards.
