Law Clerk/Attorney Duties: Oversees practice with regard to 28 USC §2255 (habeas corpus) matters including: receiving and docketing same, calendaring due dates, contacting appropriate Support Staff regarding locating files necessary to drafting responses; preparing a draft response for review; and attending to timely filing of responses for signature. May occasionally handle the same tasks related to direct criminal appeals filed with the Circuit Court of Appeals. Analyzes statutes, legislative intent, judicial precedents, agency rules and regulations, and law review articles as they relate to assigned cases to include those of an especially complex or unprecedented nature.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Must have a Law Degree (JD Degree). Must be licensed by a state Bar. Must have 7-10 years' background investigation. Must have demonstrated ability to utilize law library resources and working knowledge of research tools (e.g. Westlaw, Lexis/Nexis, CourtLink). Must have demonstrated excellent legal writing skills, requires excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
