Litigation Counsel The candidate will be working closely with the Deputy General Counsel and will be managing litigation, making strategic litigation decisions and reviewing pleadings, motions, discovery and other legal documents. This attorney will also be monitoring and coordinating outside counselsâ€™ handling of litigation matters. Work with outside counsel on litigation matters, and manage outside counsel budgets and fees, obtain required authority from management for decisions related to general litigation, and provide regular status updates to leadership. Review and provide both legal and business advice for a variety of corporate and business matters. Address inquiries from business associates on legal and business issues. Escalate appropriate issues to Deputy General Counsel. Monitor and manage various types of claims and litigation. Provide support on general operations, defense of claims and litigation (including: construction defect, personal injury, commercial, property damage and fair housing matters), and other corporate initiatives. Coordinate activities, internally and externally, including strategy for litigated and investigative matters, internal communications and remediation efforts, discovery initiatives and related disclosures. Manage litigation proceedings, including pre-litigation dispute resolution, management of active litigation. Be responsible for discovery and other litigation requests and procedures, review pleadings and other court documents. Oversee the response to subpoenas and other information requests and inquiries from third parties. Work cross-functionally with teams to mitigate litigation risk and to ensure compliance with litigation obligations and objectives. Evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations. Collaborate with business partners to devise efficient defense strategies. Travel as needed for depositions, meetings, training, and/or Company events. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the Company. Represent the Company at mediations and arbitrations, and when necessary, trial. Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position and as directed by supervisor. Comply and follow all procedures within the Companyâ€™s security policy. J.D. from ABA accredited institution and 8 - 10 years of experience handling all aspects of litigation, including but not limited to, subpoena response and negotiating settlements, overseeing and coordinating discovery, brief writing and motion practice; taking and defending depositions including the areas of construction defect, real estate litigation, personal injury, and insurance litigation required. Experience in a dynamic in-house environment preferred, which would include managing litigation and outside counsel required. Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced legal environment required. Professional and effective verbal and written communication skills, including presentations and advocacy required. Computer skills with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required.
