Directing Attorney Responsibilities:Maintain an active caseload which consists of State, Federal trial and appellate work. Supervise the activities of the office in providing legal services to low income clients, groups including advice, negotiation, litigation and administrative advocacy in accordance with company priorities and case handling policies. Ensure staff have accurate, timely, complete information about the legal issues within the local office’s scope of responsibility. Evaluate staff on an annual basis, identify employee’s training needs to be incorporated into the office’s work plan. Cooperate with Regional Directors or DLATs in the implementation of Core Expectations. Encourage advocate staff to develop specialized knowledge in a substantive area of poverty law and to act as a resource for other staff through participation in at least one company’s task force. Conduct weekly case review meetings to ensure services are consistent with company priorities, policies & procedures. Ensure legal services are provided in compliance with LSC regulations, IOLTA and other grant requirements. Supervise staff in setting up local community educational opportunities relating to legal rights. Act as liaison with the local community advisory board, set up meetings, develop reports to the CRLA Board of Directors and work with the local board to identify annual office priorities. Collaborate and cooperate with Directors to advance program goals and develop special initiatives. Cooperate with the Development department and participate in development efforts as needed. Cooperate with HR Department to ensure hiring is done in accordance with company policies & procedures. Counsel, coach staff in performance, enlisting HR department as needed where discipline required. Cooperate with the Accounting dept. in enforcing fiscal procedures and annual audit/s.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: The candidate should have JD with Bar Admission in California. 3 years minimum experience managing, preferably in a non-profit legal services. 3 years minimum litigation experience, preferably in a non-profit legal services. Demonstrated commitment to working with low income clients. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail. Preferred Bilingual.
