Midwest Legal Director The candidate will oversee a team composed of one senior attorney and a program assistant, as well as percentages of other staff, which will vary depending on the issue. Will manage all aspects of litigation in federal and state courts, provide policy recommendations and testimony, and serve in an advisory role, as needed, for related policy and litigation priorities. Will also work closely, as appropriate, with members of Litigation Team and will collaborate with scientists, policy advocates, and other staff; members; and partner environmental, environmental justice, labor, and public health groups.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree. Admission (or eligibility for admission on motion) to the relevant state Bar. 10-12 years of hands-on litigation experience. Particularly value federal litigation, evidentiary hearing and discovery, and judicial clerkship experience. Exceptional legal writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills. Affinity for creative, tough argument. Comfort interpreting scientific and technical concepts. Strong management and interpersonal skills; enthusiasm for teamwork. Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and consultants. Ability to work hard, efficiently, and independently. Demonstrated commitment to public service or social justice work. Strong independent initiative and the ability to contribute effectively as a member of a team and collaborate across organizations.
