Legal Assistant Duties: Types general correspondence, memoranda and complex legal documents according to the requirements set by each practice group. Transcribes dictation tapes (letters, memos of law, motions and briefs). Proofreads documents and checks for appropriate formatting, spelling and grammar. Prepares check requests for processing with appropriate backup and timely submission to accounting for payment. Types and coordinates expense reports. Enters and edits attorneyâ€™s time into the timekeeping system within deadlines as required. Maintains attorney(sâ€™) appointment calendar. Coordinates all client related travel. Maintains files in an efficient and effective manner. Prepares and updates attorney case lists. Receive, open, prioritize and distribute incoming mail. Prepare materials for distribution via U.S. mail, fax, courier, messenger, etc. Maintains confidentiality of client information in accordance with the firm policies. Interacts professionally with clients, attorneys, paralegals, secretaries, all other staff and other representatives outside of the firm.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment. Experience in civil litigation, insurance defense claims, including motor vehicle, products liability and premises liability. The ability to type approximately 65 â€“ 75 words per minute. Familiarity with electronic filing in Federal and State Court. Ability to handle pressure, interruptions and multiple projects with frequently changing priorities and deadlines. Exceptional organization skills. Excellent typing skills. Ability to multitask. Team work oriented. Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
