Paralegal - Bankruptcy The candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks to support the attorneys and staff with all stages of Chapter 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcies, as well as adversary proceedings and appellate work. The paralegal will maintain and organize files, conduct supervised and directed legal research, ensure online use of CRM and case management software, input and maintain client files in BestCase software, conduct title and real property valuation and lien reports, interact with clients under attorney supervision, work as a team member managing the flow of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases, and prepare motions, applications, and draft and revise pleadings. Monitor and track 15 to 40 new bankruptcy cases per month through all life cycle stages of file and ensure prompt, clear, and helpful client and Trustee communication on all such files. Prepare motions, letters and affidavits. Prepare initial draft of pleadings. Electronic filing of pleadings in CM/ECF with approved attorney login. Communicate all events and developments to clients using multiple client systems and email (as well as SMS systems and mail as appropriate). Establish a strong follow-up system to ensure deadlines are not missed for which various pleadings must be served and filed and otherwise assist in dual calendaring of all events. Ensure proper calendaring of appearances and deadlines. Follow up with clients, opposing counsel, Trustees, court staff, and third parties on unfulfilled requests. Prepare attorneys for hearings and appearances using case management and workflow systems. Keep billing records. Complete file opening procedures. Distribution of mail and electronic correspondence. Requesting original documents from client. Following up on documents from client. Elevate problems to an attorney or other managing staff in a timely and efficient manner. Other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent, some college or certification preferred. A paralegal certificate from a school approved by the American Bar Association (ABA); or, A certificate of completion of a paralegal program at, or a degree from, a postsecondary institution that requires the successful completion of 24+ semester, or equivalent, units in law-related courses and that has been accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization or approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education. 1+ year in a law firm, with prior experience in bankruptcy strongly preferred. Must be able to work independently and comfortably in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining constant focus on excellent delivery. Possess a sense of urgency and a meticulous attention to detail. Ability to maintain positive internal working relationships with office staff. Outstanding written and oral communication skills to communicate with attorneys, staff and clients. Outstanding organizational skills. Ability to handle a large volume of cases. Must have strong computer skills; Word, Excel and Outlook are assumed; candidate should also have outstanding skills in BestCase and ease with web-based CRM, as well as general understanding of software systems to access and utilize client systems.
