Legal Assistant The candidate will prepare and process legal documents and papers such as motions, appeals, complaints, pleadings, summons, etc. Mail, fax, or arrange delivery of legal correspondence to clients, witnesses, and court officials. Organize and maintain legal documents and case files. Schedule and make appointments. Make copies and scan a variety of documents. Assist attorneys and litigation paralegals in collecting information such as social security, military, union, and other records. Post documents to Lexis and Pohlman. Update spreadsheets and databases as to the status of cases. Prepare and organize deposition binders for attorneys. Provides investigators with materials and scans in notes from investigators. Updates electronic filing systems with client/case related information. Scan and save documents to a document management system. Calendar hearings and deadlines appropriately.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have knowledge of legal terms and processes. Must have prior experience in the legal field. Prior experience in legal language and writing required. Preferred: Prior experience with efiling systems (Lexis and Pohlman) Preferred: Knowledge related to Asbestos, the diseases that can result from exposure, and available treatment. Preferred: Knowledge of Asbestos containing products and in what industries they are used.
