Legal Specialist Duties: Provides legal support and assistance to attorneys and clients on a variety of legal matters, primarily related to litigation. Function independently with a minimal amount of supervision, exercise judgment and discretion, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. The complexity level of the work of the Legal Specialist requires a high degree of independent thought, judgment, analytical ability and problem solving skill sets. Interpret information from multiple sources in order to make recommendations and / or propose alternate courses of action. Provide prompt, accurate legal support and assistance to in-house counsel and client at all stages of commercial, employment and product liability litigation, administrative proceedings and arbitration. Coordinate litigation holds and discovery (electronic and paper), working closely with Information Systems and other departments as well as external vendors as needed. Keep apprised of relevant issues associated with pending litigations and, as appropriate, apprise in-house counsel and clients. Assist with requests for records, responses to subpoenas, document requests, interrogatories; assist in deposition preparation. Assist with correspondence to employees, outside counsel, and benefits providers. Assist with mechanics liens, garnishments, levies, and bankruptcy claim matters. Assist with requests for records and accept Manage service of process. Manage databases and prepare reports. Conduct legal research and other projects. Advise clients within area of responsibility with minimal attorney supervision. Provide assistance with corporate secretarial matters as needed. Keep apprised of issues relevant to the pharmaceutical industry and accurately relay this information to clients. Work with client groups, third parties and outside counsel to identify, assess and address general legal concerns. Demonstrate company values on a consistent basis. Perform related duties as required.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: A bachelorâ€™s degree or a paralegal certificate. 5+ years of relevant legal experience performing paralegal duties in a law firm, in-house corporate legal department, or government agency. E-Discovery experience. Preferred: Prior experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceuticals industries Significant e-discovery experience. Experience working on cross-functional teams that successfully met business goals while maintaining strict compliance with relevant laws, regulations and company policies is a plus. Professional Skills: Proactive, self-motivated and solution-oriented team player with the commitment and ability to accomplish tasks / objectives independently, reliably and in a professional and timely manner. Excellent analytical, problem solving, interpersonal and organizational skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex legal information to individuals at various levels of the organization Ability to work independently and to be reliable, responsive and accountable while exercising independent thought and judgment in advising clients and making decisions within area of responsibility. Ability to effectively manage outside vendors (when used) and adhere to a budget and timeline Ability to work independently with minimal supervision managing multiple tasks simultaneously and providing a high quality work product, with excellent attention to detail under tight deadlines. Ability to organize, coordinate and motivate cross-functional teams. Sound judgment, strong work ethic, and commitment to client satisfaction while maintaining the highest ethical standards and the confidentiality of sensitive matters. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with using electronic databases and managing/maintaining legal files.
