Paralegal Workers Compensation Should have 3+ years experience, specifically in handling Workers Compensation matters in the State of Maryland. The candidate s responsibilities include: 24-hour telephone call return time. 60-day status review on open cases. PPD ratings scheduled within 30 days of MMI. Bills/reports to insurer within 5 days of receipt. Secure payment as related to WC treatment/expense. TT/compensability verification within 5 days of consideration date. Detailed claimant contact within 2 days of assignment. Appropriate causal letters on O.D./questionable C.C. claims. Secure witnesses as appropriate on A.I. claims. Secure T.T.D./P.P.D. benefits on claims. Direct work flow of administrative assistants. Assist with P.P.D. negotiations as directed by counsel. Maintain active diary and computer notes on open cases. Maintain files in proper, orderly manner. Schedule IMEs/evaluations in a timely and appropriate manner. Serve as liaison between claimant and insurer/employer on WC concerns and issues. Coordination/Follow-Up with Appropriate Supervision. Review case facts with appropriate supervision (handling attorney/WC team supervisor) in strategically aligning the management of difficult cases, especially those highlighted below: Uninsured employer; Subsequent Injury Fund; Jurisdictional issues; Catastrophic injury; Medical causal relationship; Subrogation; Apportionment; Occupational disease; Psychological overlay; Permanent total and Questionable compensability. Hearing files to attorney 5-days prior to scheduled date. Hearing files prepared according to best practice guidelines. Claimant/witnesses, etc. notified of hearing, updated regarding status, etc. Issues/Outcomes/Decisions communicated with appropriate parties and recorded in I&H file database. 24-hour telephone call return time. Courteous, professional demeanor in responding to client calls and inquiries. Notifies client via mail or telephone of important case developments (e.g., hearing, issues, ratings, etc.). Demonstrates professional, courteous demeanor to WC team members and other co-workers. Communicates with Auto paralegals and assists as warranted on WC/Third. Assists WC team members (attorneys, paralegals, assistants) as appropriate, when requested.
Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience is required. Should have strong grammar, proofreading and editing skills, experience with e-filing; and the ability to work efficiently with team and at time independently with a minimum of direct supervision. Must have intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office including, Outlook, Word and Excel. Experience working with Needles software system is a plus.
