Legal Assistant/Paralegal The candidate will provide support to Legal Department attorneys, particularly in the areas of litigation, consumer finance regulation and licensing, corporate financing transactions, commercial contracts, and other corporate law and regulatory matters. Perform a variety of law-related tasks under the direction of in-house counsel, including conducting legal research, drafting legal documents and performing other related duties. Work with outside counsel to provide litigation support, including investigating allegations, gathering information, reviewing pleadings and responding to discovery. Assist with managing, tracking and providing responses to subpoenas. Assist in monitoring changes in applicable consumer finance laws and regulations and review possible impact of such changes to the company. Provide support to apply for and maintain all business and regulatory filings, including sales finance licensing, debt collection/loan servicing licensing, and annual reports. Assist in researching and analyzing legal issues under the direction of Legal Department attorneys. Assist in developing and executing training in relevant areas of consumer finance law and regulation. Provide support for corporate financing transactions and commercial contracts, i.e., preparing drafts and proofreading documents, coordinating due diligence, managing document execution and closing, assisting in obtaining requisite corporate approvals. Coordinate, maintain and update project calendar for relevant matters. Assist in creating and maintaining Legal Department reports to support efficiencies and organizational management. Develop, organize, maintain and manage Legal Department records and files in accordance with record retention policies. Assist with tracking and processing invoices and various administrative tasks. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Paralegal Certificate from an ABA approved/accredited program preferred. 3+ years of paralegal experience in a law firm or corporate law department handling litigation, corporate law and/or consumer finance regulatory matters required. Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation; ability to work independently, manage and prioritize multiple concurrent responsibilities, deadlines and changing priorities, and to take direction required. Excellent: organization skills; detail-oriented; self-starter; excellent follow-up skills; communication skills, both written and verbal required. Strong writing and analytical skills required. Experience evaluating information to assist in determining compliance with laws and regulations required. Proficient computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and familiarity with on-line legal research tools required.
