Director, Global Trade The candidate ensures that company and its subsidiaries ship and receive product in adherence with all laws and regulations throughout the globe. This person oversees all aspects of the Company’s global trade initiatives. Also supports the sales efforts with foreign trade while balancing compliance risks. Will work closely with peers to ensure our global logistics process is consistently in line with our core values. Manages the company’s trade compliance program, which includes export/import classifications, licensing determinations, conduct denied party screenings and sanctions programs, identifying deemed exports and more. Ensures that all shipments conform to U.S. Governmental and foreign regulations. Oversees the review and approval of all commercial invoices, license applications, and any other paperwork required for international shipments. Develops and manages global trade compliance procedures to assure proper alignment of the logistics processes to meet company’s business objectives. Oversees the classification, usage and reporting of Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs) control list numbers, tariff codes (HTSUS), and Country of Origin information. Interfaces with other business functions to ensure documentation is accurate and maintained. Assists in the development of any reporting or documentation needed for compliance purposes (Country of Origin certificates, Free Trade Agreements, HTSUS codes, ECCN classifications). Oversees filing of applicable reports with U.S. Government (Automated Commerce Environment (ACE)/Automated Export System (AES), et. al) and foreign jurisdictions. Oversees the required record retention of documents to ensure recordkeeping and reporting requirements are maintained in accordance with the U.S. regulations and are also in a manner whereby audits are completed quickly and without material issues. Monitors the conduct of business activities for adherence to import/export procedures throughout the business lifecycle, including early-stage review of new products and classification/characterization of commodities through final delivery to customer. Identifies and analyzes causes of international and domestic compliance issues and gaps and generate recommendations to management. Liaise with Sales and Engineering department to structure global transactions to ensure adherence with U.S. import/export laws and regulations, as well as laws/regulations of foreign jurisdictions. Responds in a timely manner to questions from Sales and Engineering departments related to international transactions. Advises company clients on proper import/export structuring for complicated international transactions. Trains business functions with regards to U. S. import/export regulations, as well as international logistics and processes. Collaborates with the Legal Department to ensure that transactions are appropriately described in contracts. Works with freight forwarders, customs brokers, regulatory agents, attorneys and trade compliance consultants to assist company in maintaining trade compliance. Conducts internal periodic assessments of company’s activities in the context of import/export compliance. Monitors, measures, and reports on adherence to regulations and procedures in the conduct of import/export. Acts as change catalyst and drives global change and global process improvement. Supervise staff to support initiatives above.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Bachelor's or Master's degree in foreign trade or a related field. Must have 10+ years of international trade experience. Must have 10 years of international trade experience with a strong expertise in regulations, policies, and laws affecting foreign trade, including those related to technology, dangerous goods, currency, environmental concerns, taxes and security. Licensed U.S. Customs Broker is a plus. Lawyer a plus. Should have expertise in the regulations, policies, and laws affecting foreign trade, including those related to technology, dangerous goods, currency, environmental concerns, taxes and security, among other issues. Must have exceptional knowledge of international trade regulations and their effect on business processes. Should have detailed knowledge concerning Incoterms 2010.
