Vice President, Content Protection Legal Duties: Under the direction of the Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Chief Global Content Protection Legal, and working alongside Vice President, Global Content Protection Counsel responsible for voluntary initiatives, will assist with domestic and international voluntary initiatives with Internet intermediaries and major platforms and provide legal support for the worldwide content protection department. Responsible for assisting with developing, executing and supporting a global voluntary initiative strategy for combating piracy, managing multiple matters simultaneously, working with our Global Content Protection Legal and Content Protection Enforcement and Operations teams, and keeping apprised of our existing outreach and initiatives and developments related to those efforts. Advise association member companies and association personnel on domestic and international voluntary initiatives. Assist in the coordination of voluntary initiatives worldwide, including initiatives related to advertising entities, payment processors, hosting providers, domain name registries and registrars, online marketplaces, social media, privacy proxies, and CDNs (collectively “intermediaries”). Coordinate and communicate with member companies and outside counsel in support of voluntary initiatives and outreach to intermediaries – both orally and in written communications. Provide legal support to US content protection program and participate in the execution of global content protection strategies. Provide legal support for all aspects voluntary initiative related efforts, including monitoring important developments, identifying new intermediaries providing services to pirate sites or services, reviewing and drafting correspondence, and assisting in factual and technical research related to specific intermediaries and the pirate sites they provide services to. Prepare for and engage in direct negotiations with intermediaries and platforms, which may include working with outside vendors, association investigators, and other internal colleagues to prepare a deep dive analysis of the role played by specific intermediaries, drafting reports and potential “asks” to be sought from via voluntary agreements, and obtaining member company consensus regarding an outreach strategy. Assist in assuring compliance with data protection and privacy obligations in the sharing of information related to content protection efforts between the association’s regions.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: JD Degree and experience with civil litigation and copyright law is required; data protection and/or privacy experience is helpful. 5+ years of experience practicing law in a law firm or corporate legal department. Must have the highest level of professionalism, work ethic and integrity with the ability to maintain confidential information. Demonstrated leadership skills and experience working in large groups to achieve consensus on significant legal issues. Must have excellent analytical, legal, research and writing skills. Prefer strong technical skills and knowledge of the Internet ecosystem, anti-piracy, and copyright infringement issues. Prefer a good understanding of online content distribution methods, including streaming video, online file hosting and peer-to-peer sharing. Demonstrated negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and carry out responsibilities under minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to organize workload for effective implementation. Demonstrated ability to write correspondence and reports to present information in one-on-one and group situations. Must possess the ability to work independently and to gather, analyze and disseminate information accurately and in a timely manner. Must display sound judgment, initiative and the ability to work as part of a team. Must possess the ability to effectively interface with a variety of people and work well under stressful situations. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Willingness to travel.
