Practice Manager - Intellectual Property Litigation Duties: Responsible for direct oversight and training of paralegal personnel, maintenance of practice calendar, staffing of practice matters and projects, monitoring of deadlines, and development and maintenance of standard processes to increase efficiency and quality of work. Work with attorneys on client billable, business development, and practice group support projects to meet the Firm’s minimum hours expectations (1000 billable hours/1700 chargeable hours per year); Design and implement case/project management plans; Be responsible for calendar, project staffing, logistics, and monitoring work-flow within practice group; Develop and keep current practice area procedures as needed to achieve best practices; Supervise project and legal assistants, team assistants, and records/file clerks within practice group and on specified projects; Regularly maintain or oversee maintenance of the practice group docketing system, and, if required, improve existing or research, identify, and implement appropriate replacement system; Maintain and regularly distribute a practice area calendar, including reviewing incoming materials, determining priorities, docketing and communicating deadlines and work assignments to ensure compliance with jurisdictional rules and deadlines; Prepare and coordinate logistics for, set up, and attend trials, primarily in federal district courts; Regularly and directly interact with representatives from federal agencies and courts and – under direction of attorneys – with clients, external interested parties, and members of government and the press in order to achieve client and practice goals efficiently and effectively; Maintains up-to-date knowledge and documentation of court and agency filing requirement/procedures, including e-filing; Conducts short- and long-term projects as requested by partners or associates; Monitors deadlines for compliance with regulations regarding certification and destruction of materials subject to protective order; Integrate of new staff and attorneys by providing practice group-specific training; Develops and provides ongoing skills development training and mentoring for staff under his/her supervision. Responsible for responding to attorney requests/inquiries (i.e. via email, etc.) during and after business hours. Maintain high availability to practice via mobile device; Provides written performance appraisals for legal and project assistants and other support staff under his/her supervision; Interviews candidates for positions within the Intellectual Property practice; Other duties as may be assigned by attorneys and/or the Director of Legal & Practice Support.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Four year college degree and relevant IP and trial experience required; preferred paralegal certificate or JD Degree. 5+ years of litigation experience, including at 1-2 years of direct supervisory experience. Strong interpersonal communication skills for management, training, delegation and performance coaching; Experience successfully developing, implementing, and updating workflows/processes in a legal environment; Ability to effectively manage shifting priorities, competing deadlines, and work in a team environment; Experience preparing and supporting trial teams, including those held remotely from office location; Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both in writing and orally; Proficient in the use of office productivity applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat) and practice-specific software (e.g., Relativity, Westlaw CaseNotebook, Compulaw, West CaseTimeline, Concordance, IPRO, ChemDraw); aptitude for learning new software strongly preferred. Able to perform complex cite-checking, research and data analysis under the supervision of attorneys (e.g. LEXIS/Westlaw, Internet, factual research at government agencies and courts, investigative, etc.). Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills; Exceptional attention to detail; Flexible in work schedule and willing to work overtime, including on short notice; Able to travel to support trial efforts, as needed; Responsible for responding to attorney requests/inquiries (i.e. via email, etc.) during and after business hours.
