ProfilePatent Attorney Duties: Work to optimize patent portfolio worldwide, especially involving pharmaceutical inventions, and including both prosecution activities and litigation support. Will actively contribute to the discovery, development and delivery of products to our patients and customers. Identifying inventions; drafting patent applications thereto; and prosecuting the applications before global patent offices, including instructing numerous local patent attorneys to prepare required responses. Under the supervision of the Global Head of Patent Prosecution and Patent Litigation, this person will help advise employees on questions related to patentability, infringement, and freedom to operate involving third parties’ intellectual property rights. Will support patent litigation activities including, among others, opposition practice; Inter-Partes Review; and infringement proceedings. Evaluate third party patents to prepare validity opinion and Freedom-to-Operate Opinions. Participate in IP due diligence activities for in-licensing or acquisition projects.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Ph.D. in organic chemistry or equivalent (Master's Degree with 10 years of experience) from an accredited institution; should be admitted to practice before the US Patent Office wither as a registered patent agent or as a patent attorney if the person holds a Law degree from an accredited law school. Prefer 3+ years of practice in a patent field. Ability to work as part of a multi-functional project team. Expertise in chemistry and pharmaceutical practice. Ability to write well as evidenced by past patent applications. Ability to manage high work loads. Ability to solve complex patent law questions.
