Intellectual Property Counsel The candidate will join the Intellectual Property Department. Provide leadership in patent strategy, patent preparation and prosecution, intellectual property transactions, due diligence, freedom-to-operate analysis, dispute resolution, and litigation support. Responsible for identifying intellectual property issues, developing effective solutions to intellectual property problems, and guiding the business. Report directly to company’s Vice President of Global Intellectual Property & Chief IP Counsel and support a variety of businesses and technology platforms, and related products and services.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have admission to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, a JD degree or equivalent, membership in good standing of the California Bar (or member in good standing of another state bar and eligible for RIHC status in California), an undergraduate or graduate degree or other training or experience relevant to company’s offerings in life sciences or chemical analysis including reagents, hardware, software, informatics, and a strong technological aptitude for learning and working with a range of technologies. Such training and experience could include, for example, a background in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, genomics, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, microarrays, nucleic acid synthesis, nucleic acid sequencing, and/or bioinformatics. Must have 10+ years of practical experience, including having the ability to critically review and revise patent applications; thoroughly analyze patent infringement, validity, and related issues; work collaboratively with and manage external counsel (e.g., regarding patent prosecution, due diligence, patent analysis/opinions); and undertake and manage a variety of intellectual property matters. Experience in freedom-to-operate analysis is required, and experience in due diligence and litigation analysis and support will be a plus. Excellent analytic and communication skills are necessary, as is commitment to continuous learning, teamwork, and collaboration.
