ProfileVice President , Intellectual Property The candidate will lead a global team of 9 attorneys and other IP professionals responsible for company-wide development and protection of firm's broad intellectual property portfolio consisting of life science, diagnostic and analytical instrumentation products, software, and solutions. Will lead and develop the IP team in a manner consistent with firm's values and leadership expectations which include collaboration, innovation, self-awareness, open communication, respect, and team development. Lead firm's global IP strategy including both defensive practices and proactive efforts to utilize IP for the purpose of driving new business initiatives that contribute to growth. Work closely with internal legal and business partners and external counsel to anticipate and resolve IP litigation, threats, infringements and other IP ownership challenges.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have JD degree with license to practice and Bachelors degree (minimum) in a relevant life science field. Masters Degree and/or PhD are preferred. Should have 15+ years of combined law firm and in-house corporate experience in the medical device, life sciences, and/or in vitro diagnostics sectors. Broad experience with portfolio management, IP litigation and transactions, and strategic global IP planning. Should have 5+ years of experience in progressively increasing IP leadership roles and proven track record of leading IP teams. Experience in IP litigation is essential. Excellent business acumen and judgement, plus a knowledge of in vitro diagnostics and medical device IP practices is essential. Should have successful record of working in a global and multi-cultural environment. Should have significant understanding of the commercial and legal environments affecting IP in foreign markets. Must be an experienced leader who can operate at an executive level to influence forward-looking IP direction while making hands-on, business-focused contributions. Should be a member of the General Counsel’s senior leadership team and will reflect firm's commitment to collaboration and engagement.
