IP Counsel Duties: Provide legal guidance to Brand Teams and Management concerning intellectual property strategy, procurement, licensing and disputes with a focus on trademark, copyright, design patents and trade dress issues both domestically and globally. Conduct knock-out searches, provide direction to creative teams and liaise with outside counsel to ensure trademarks and Company IP are used properly and adequately protected. Manage and oversee outside counsel in connection with domestic and international trademark prosecution, oppositions, and cancellation actions. Review and advise on Company Advertising and Branding materials and communications with respect to IP strategy. Review, draft, and negotiate all contractual agreements, including license agreements, co-existence agreements, trademark/copyright releases, joint promotion agreements, media agreements, non-disclosure agreements and agency agreements. Create general guidelines and conduct IP trainings as necessary for the Business. Partner with Brands, IS/IT and Global teams to protect domain names and develop go forward strategy. Liaise with Global IP team to ensure consistency in approach & align with global strategy and communicate same to Business. Will report directly to the Associate General Counsel - Marketing & IP.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree is required. 4-8 years of experience in a law firm or in-house role focusing on intellectual property is required. Must be willing to travel as required for the role. Ability to identify legal issues quickly and effectively communicate sound, understandable legal recommendations to the business. Strong work ethic, a "hands on" mentality, take ownership of work product, and have the ability to work in an extremely fast paced environment on a collaborative legal team. Must be: Creative and exhibit business savvy. highly organized and detailed oriented. competent to take on complex legal issues and projects autonomously. capable of changing focus quickly to respond to varied business needs. Must have: strong oral communication skills. strong interpersonal skills. strong negotiation skills.
