Vice President - Casualty Claims The candidate will handle mainstream and complex general liability and excess and umbrella claims of all varieties. Will analyze insurance coverage and resolve claims according Best Practices and within stated authority limits. Report to the Head of Casualty Claims. Reviewing and analyzing complex coverage issues and preparation of coverage position letters and supporting coverage litigation/arbitration. Investigation, analysis and evaluation of liability and damages. Supporting and counseling the claims department about coverage issues, strategies, and coverage positions. Third party administrator oversight and management. Managing and directing outside counsel as well as reviewing and approving legal budgets and bills. Preparing case summary reports related to matters of significant reserve and trial activity. Timely and appropriate setting of case reserves. Development and execution of claim strategies as well as resolution strategies. Negotiating settlements and resolving cases. Attending trials and mediations. Supporting underwriting inquiries and information requests regarding policy construction and drafting, reporting claim trends, data analysis, and risk assessments. Extensive communication with insureds, brokers, reinsurers, actuaries, and business unit contacts. Attending client meetings and industry functions to support retention and development of client relationships and business.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have JD degree and/or experience practicing law. Should have 5-10 years of general liability and excess claims experience including handling a wide variety of bodily injury and property damage claims, public entity claims, personal and advertising injury claims, environmental claims, products liability claims as well as mass torts of all varieties. Strong oral and written communication skill is essential. Strong analytical and organizational skill is essential. Strong negotiation and investigation skill is essential. Must have excellent interpersonal skill. Should have in-depth knowledge of insurance coverage and reinsurance and in-depth knowledge of litigation, arbitration, and trial processes. Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment is essential. Knowledge of claims handling or insurance legal statutes and procedures is essential.
