Senior Immigration Attorney Duties: Supervision of attorneys, including pro bono volunteers, non-attorney advocates, and interns. Directly representing individuals in removal proceedings before the Los Angeles Immigration Court; Preparing and submitting applications, legal briefs, and supporting documentation for immigration relief, including but not limited to: asylum, withholding of removal, relief under the Convention Against Torture, U visa, VAWA, and adjustment of status with applicable waivers, refugee waivers, and SIJS; Conducting Know-Your-Rights presentations to individuals in immigration court and conducting intakes with individuals scheduled for court that day; Preparing and submitting reports to program funders; Grant planning and drafting, as well as relationship building with funders, and; Presenting to and working with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community based organizations on changes in immigration law.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD degree with membership in good standing with California State Bar; 7-10 years of removal defense experience and strong knowledge of immigration remedies required; Dedicated to serving immigrant communities with a sincere commitment to working on behalf of low income immigrants; Bilingual, Asian language strongly preferred; Detail oriented and strong writing skills; Supervisory experience; Excellent interpersonal skills, including good communication skills, listening skills and attitude; Ability to work both independently and under supervision; Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
