Immigration Attorney The candidate will conduct immigration consultations with potential clients as scheduled by the Program Coordinator. Will conduct all follow up appointments with Immigration Services clients identify available immigration benefits, obtain all necessary client documentation and evidence, file all relevant applications, and follow cases through to completion. Will represent clients at immigration interviews at USCIS and in Immigration Court. Will maintain a steadily increasing immigration case load, ensuring that all deadlines are documented and met. Will collect appropriate fees from clients and provide proper documentation of fees collected. Will maintain up-to-date knowledge of immigration law and policy as relevant to Immigration Services clients. Will attend immigration law trainings to increase knowledge as required by the Program Manager. Will participate in education, advocacy and outreach efforts to provide the community with accurate information regarding immigration law and policy. Will provide appropriate referrals to other legal or community resources when needed.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have J.D. degree from an ABA Accredited law school. Must be license to practice law in at least one U.S. state, preferably Nebraska. Must have existing knowledge of immigration law. Should have fluency in Spanish/English and/or Arabic/English and/or Somali/English and/or Sudanese dialect/English. Should work well in a multi-cultural environment. Shopuld be punctual, detail-oriented, organized and responsible. Should have strong verbal/written communication skills. Should have flexibility to meet the constant changing community services environment. Should have willingness to travel out of town when necessary. Should have commitment to the mission of Lutheran Family Services.
