Profile

Supervising Attorney-Immigration Duties: Assist in the provision of legal services to immigrants, with particular emphasis on individuals in removal proceedings. Under the supervision of the Immigration Project Director, will take cases as well as supervise and mentor other attorneys, including volunteer attorneys. Supervision of attorneys, including pro bono volunteers, non-attorney advocates, and interns. Directly representing individuals in removal proceedings before the Los Angeles Immigration Court; Preparing and submitting applications, legal briefs, and supporting documentation for immigration relief, including but not limited to: asylum, withholding of removal, relief under the Convention Against Torture, U visa, VAWA, and adjustment of status with applicable waivers, refugee waivers, and SIJS; Conducting Know-Your-Rights presentations to individuals in immigration court and conducting intakes with individuals scheduled for court that day; Preparing and submitting reports to program funders; Grant planning and drafting, as well as relationship building with funders, and; Presenting to and working with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community based organizations on changes in immigration law.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: JD degree with membership in good standing with California State Bar; 7-10 years of removal defense experience and strong knowledge of immigration remedies required; Bilingual, Asian language strongly preferred; Dedicated to serving immigrant communities with a sincere commitment to working on behalf of low income immigrants; Detail oriented and strong writing skills; Supervisory experience; Excellent interpersonal skills, including good communication skills, listening skills and attitude; Ability to work both independently and under supervision.
