Vice President, Chief Legal Officer Duties: Responsible for the overall management , oversight and operations of the Legal Services department and for setting vision to enable the department to meet customer needs in the future. Provides guidance regarding legal aspects of regulatory compliance of University Health System to include developing training and education programs. Provides legal guidance to University Health System senior leadership regarding surveys, inspections and audits of the Health System by regulatory, licensing and/or accrediting organizations, including but not limited to, Joint Commission, CMS, HHSC , and ACGME. Assists, coordinates and provides support on Medical-Dental staff issues when necessary. Assists in the preparation of management reports and operating procedures relative to compliance and regulatory matters when required. Provides legal guidance and transactional guidance on forming and modifying relationships with other organizations. Responsible for the management, oversight and conduct of litigation involving the Health System, including the development, monitoring and enforcement of litigation budgets, the evaluation of litigation strategies and oversight of outside counsel.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: A Law Degree (JD Degree or LLB) from an accredited Law School is required. Must be a member in good standing of the Texas Bar and currently licensed to practice in Texas or obtain a license to practice law in the state of Texas and become admitted to the State Bar of Texas within nine months of hire. 10-15 years as a licensed attorney and five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in Health Law required. Additional experience with state and federal health care law, medical malpractice and tort liability, regulatory compliance, as well as governmental assistance programs is required. Working knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation standards and survey processes, Texas Health and Human Services Commission investigations and administrative processes is highly desired.
