ProfileChief Counsel Duties: Under the general supervision of the General Counsel, focuses primarily on labor and employment matters, while also dealing with general litigation matters, for the enterprise. Acts as legal advisor and counsel to management on litigation, employment, and labor matters, and works with outside counsel, other in-house counsel, and department heads. In conjunction with outside counsel, provide legal advice on and monitor compliance with labor and employment laws and regulations under federal and state laws. Advise management in the formulation, implementation, revision, and enforcement of litigation and labor and employment policies and procedures. Engage outside counsel in an effective and cost-effective manner and manage the work and litigation strategy of outside counsel, particularly for employment matters. Assess legal risk, make recommendation to the Law Department and management, and assist in strategies to mitigate or resolve identified risk. Handle cross-disciplinary legal matters in collaboration with outside and in-house counsel and other professionals. Oversee legal hold management and assist in responding to subpoenas and records requests. Assist in investigating claims brought by current and former employees. Supervise reporting of employment and other claims covered by insurance as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree from an accredited school required. 5+ years in a law firm or corporate legal department with primary focus in labor and employment law required. 5 years in a law firm representing healthcare clients or the corporate legal department of a hospital, medical center, healthcare organization, or related industry preferred. Familiarity with Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii employment laws preferred.
