Civil Practice Staff Attorney-Health Law Unit The candidate will assists clients with the following health issues: eligibility and enrollment in Medicaid, Medicare, Qualified Health Plans, and other health insurance; denials of health care benefits and services; access to care and insurance for the uninsured; disability rights and discrimination; and immigrant access to health care and services. Will provide client representation and advocacy with local, State, and federal agencies. Will provide client representation in State and federal court proceedings and affirmative litigation. Will engage in policy and legislative advocacy. Will train and provide technical assistance to beneficiaries, local community-based organizations, and health care providers. Will advocate with health insurance plans and City, State, and federal agencies. Will participate in community outreach. Will develop community education materials and conduct trainings for clients and other advocates.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have admission to NYS Bar. Must have ability to work independently as well as on a team and manage a high volume of cases. Must have favorable consideration will be given to attorneys who have familiarity with health law issues. Should have eexcellent written and oral advocacy skills. Must have excellent organizational skills, including ability to meet frequent deadlines in data entry and case management responsibilities. Must have demonstrated commitment to, and experience in, public interest law and civil legal services. Must have ability to coordinate and collaborate successfully with other groups and organizations including community based organizations and other legal services organizations. Must have experience in developing and conducting training materials for advocates and clients. Should have proficiency in languages other than English.
