Associate General Counsel Duties: Advising and liaising with senior executives and managing a dedicated team of attorneys and paralegals. General legal counsel; serving as a member of medical business executive committees; supervising sales program and template development; managing litigation matters and outside counsel engagements; and maintaining the risk profile with respect to healthcare fraud and abuse laws. Serve as principal legal advisor for US medical business, providing advice on a broad range of topics, including commercial transactions, healthcare fraud and abuse compliance, and regulatory and quality issues. Provide guidance on risks and best practices related to Anti- Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, and Food Drug and Cosmetic Act. Supervise negotiation and drafting of commercial transactions. Provide support in establishing and documenting sales programs and promotions. Maintain active communication with Deputy General Counsel about legal risks. Adapt, implement, and deliver training on legal department policies and procedures. Contribute to business group and legal department development of policies and standards. Manage outside counsel engagements, including budgets and fees. Leverage outside counsel to enhance internal expertise and improve knowledge. Proactively identify legal risks affecting Olympus, and collaborate with senior management to mitigate risks. Follow and advise on major developments in laws and regulations. Provide continuous leadership, supervision, training, and development of Legal department staff ensuring an effective and engaged team. Drive constant improvement and operational efficiency of Legal function supporting medical business. Perform all other essential duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: JD Degree from an accredited law school is required. Member of US state Bar in good standing is required. 10+ years of legal experience, including practice with multinational law firm and/or in-house practice is required. Experience in highly-regulated industry is required; medical device, pharmaceutical, or life sciences experience is preferred. Expertise in Anti-Kickback Statute, Food Drug and Cosmetic Act, and other laws and regulations impacting US healthcare industry is essential. Law department management and attorney supervision experience is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Ability to maintain a positive professional image is a must.
