ProfileManaging Attorney The candidate will provide free legal assistance in non-criminal matters affecting essential needs to low-income people and vulnerable seniors residing in northwestern NJ. Direct the overall operations of the county program in compliance with the mission of the organisation, the policies established by the Board of Director, the regulations established by the Legal Services Corporation and requirements of funding sources. Implement agency and program objectives and outcomes, and implement organizational structures and functions consistent with those objectives and outcomes. Provide advice to the Executive Director on the establishment, development, and implementation of policy and priorities. Assist the Executive Director with seeking and maintaining local grants and funding. Manage the county office, assuring that high-quality legal assistance is provided by maintaining a work environment that is conducive to the efficient delivery of priority services as established by the Board of Trustees. Managing Attorney may delegate some of these tasks but bears responsibility for them. Conduct the Performance Appraisal; sets clear and reasonable expectations for each staff member, including expectations for professional development. Provide supervision for each staff member; reviews case management reports on a regular basis for county work. Handle personnel issues, including resolution of concerns or issues with workplace conduct or work product in accordance with the procedures in the organisation Employee Handbook. Convene staff meetings regularly. Implement a plan for coverage of non-emergent matters upon the absence of any county staff person. Maintain the physical space and equipment to provide a healthful and efficient office environment. Implement office procedures, including the tickler system. Participate in the recruitment and hiring of staff, in cooperation with the Executive Director. Identify the significant government, service provider and community-based organizations that most closely relate to the organisation mission and implement a plan for participation in those groups. Present information to community groups about legal rights and the organisation services and prepares materials related to these presentations. Participate in committees, task forces, and working groups related to the work of the organisation County office. Maintain local public relations activities of the county program, i.e., communicate and establish contacts and relations with courts, Bar Associations, private bar, governmental agencies and community organizations. Participate in County bar association activities. J.D. from accredited law school and license attorney of the State or licensed in another state and committed to seeking state Bar admission required. 7+ years of experience in public interest law or comparable experience with preference for significant legal services experience required. Ability: to analyze issues, make decisions and effect change; to foster and maintain an excellent working relationship with all members of the office staff and Board and work in team environment required. Excellent analytical, oral communication and writing skills required. Advanced capabilities of technology, including word processing, case database, calendaring and scheduling software, e-mail, Internet and legal software required.
