General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer Duties: Providing legal advice and developing and leading processes to ensure that the organization complies with the law, achieves its strategic goals and serves its charitable mission. Responsible for (1) leading the organization's compliance program and the Compliance and Legal Services functions; (2) educating and advising the Board, Leadership and staff on laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to the organization's operations, and individual legal matters and compliance issues; and (3) managing legal services (excluding labor and employment issues) performed by outside counsel and overseeing compliance and legal issues within the organization with a particular emphasis on fraud and abuse, regulatory compliance, privacy and security, contracts and grants, and organizational policies and procedures. serves as an active part of senior leadership and will be the primary compliance and legal authority and advisor to the organization.

Qualification and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS: JD Degree required. 5-10 years of experience working as in-house counsel or equivalent related experience; health care related experience preferred. Must have a law degree and be in good standing with the State Bar of Vermont. Thorough understanding of the health care legal environment trends and issues and communicates in a manner that synthesizes and simplifies complex issues to enhance understanding and assist decision-making. Success in planning, supporting and directing new programs and teams to advance the organization's strategic plan and charitable mission. Demonstrated personal commitment to work effectively in a multi cultured and unionized setting. Proven ability to create and maintain a positive environment for employees. Success in developing strong relationships with Senior Leadership to collaborate on operational improvements. Must be knowledgeable of State and Federal laws, regulations, and guidelines related to health care delivery and payment, privacy and security, contracts and grants, tax exempt organizations, and other regulations.
