Privacy and HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA) Specialist Duties: Report to the Chief Privacy Officer Provide system-wide support for the design, review, enhancement and remediation of privacy compliance and business associate agreement (BAA) program. Participate in all aspects of a comprehensive privacy compliance program – from research & analysis, incident response & documentation, regulatory research, policy & procedure development, risk assessment and monitoring adherence to policies, procedures, compliance standards and metrics. Make recommendations based on privacy compliance best practices and specifically provide review and guidance for BAAs. Provide support to PSJH as a subject matter expert on Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), privacy laws and regulatory requirements, including analysis and interpretation of those laws and regulations specifically as they apply to the system’s BAA, in coordination with Information Security, the Department of Legal Affairs and Risk Management departments when appropriate. Act as a liaison for the coordination and implementation of a system-wide HIPAA BAA privacy compliance program, including setting agendas and taking and/or reviewing minutes for Privacy Leadership Team meetings. Advise on privacy policy, BAA procedures, directives, and guidelines to enhance compliance with privacy requirements.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, education, communications, or related fields of study. Certified Professional Compliance Officer (CPCO) within 6 months of hire. 5 years of experience with compliance and privacy laws and regulations with demonstrated analytical ability. Ability and confidence to work with and provide excellent service to colleagues, customers, and caregivers across the organization at all levels while maintaining objectivity and independence . Ability to analyze risk based areas with an understanding of the broader internal and external environment to develop practical and creative educational solutions with stakeholders . Strong oral and written communication skills including active listening skills. Ability to apply adult learning styles and training methods. Comfortable presenting topics and ideas to peers and others within and outside the organization Demonstrated problem solving skills . Ability to represent the company with external constituents . Ability to work within tight time frames and meet strict deadlines. Demonstrated project management skills . Preferred:. Law degree or coursework. Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) within 9 months of hire. 3 years of experience in a healthcare setting and familiarity with HIPAA and BAA’s.
