Managing Counsel - Mortgage Banking The candidate will manage and lead a team of attorneys and staff personnel within the Mortgage Banking Section. Will report directly to the Assistant General Counsel, Consumer Banking and Corporate Regulatory Division. Oversee a team of professionals responsible for managing servicing of mortgage loans in the Home Lending line of business of Bank. Develop and maintain relationships with key internal business unit constituencies, including management and senior executive business leaders, risk and compliance executives, as well as relevant external constituencies, including regulators and external audit. Guide team members in assessing, communicating and escalating litigation and regulatory enforcement related risks present in their portfolios as well as development of risk and cost mitigation plans and strategies. Conduct research and data analytics and participate in industry working groups as appropriate to gain an understanding of the legal risks and trends (both internal and external). Provide relevant and timely communication and advice regarding those risks and other appropriate reporting as needed. Participate in and manage initiatives relevant to the company's businesses or Law department strategic priorities, and supervise complex, multi-business or enterprise-level strategic or operational projects. Develop aligned partnerships with Law department leadership and team members supporting Mortgage Banking. Foster individual team member growth and development in substantive areas and help build transferable skill sets. Manage individual portfolio of matters, as appropriate.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have 10+ years of experience as a practicing attorney with active State Bar membership and 1+ year of leadership experience. Demonstrated expertise in managing complex matters in various parts of mortgage banking is needed. Demonstrated ability to provide practical risk management counsel and strategic guidance on Reg. X, Reg. Z., regulatory enforcement, as well as routine and advanced legal questions or inquiries to members of senior executive management is essential. Business development experience including development and execution of business vision, strategies, and goals is preferred. Leadership and management experience for team of attorneys and staff with a section or legal specialty including developing virtual staff and managing a budget is desired. Experience managing and developing teams is an asset. Experience interacting with and presenting to senior executive legal and business management, regulators or other internal or external stakeholders is a plus. Experience managing teams with respect to mortgage banking servicing issues is ideal. Experience leading a team or cross-functional group in significant tasks or projects is desired.
