Profile

Staff Attorney Duties: Under the direction of the General Counsel, will assist with general transactional work including but not limited to drafting correspondence, contract reviews, litigation matters and research. Will be involved in day-to-day business activities and will assist and report directly to the General Counsel in this capacity. Draft, review and edit agreements. Conduct research on legal matters impacting the Company, including state and federal statutes and regulations. Collaborate and work with other departments and management, at all levels, to address and resolve complex legal matters. Assist with the development of corporate policies and procedures. Assist in coordinating and working on various other legal projects and future business channels. Draft various litigation pleadings, motions, correspondences and written responses. Maintain responsibility for routine litigation calendar and caseload, including making court appearances, as necessary, and assisting the General Counsel in the supervision and monitoring of company legal matters, including working with outside counsel and internal staff within the General Counsel's office.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Four-year undergraduate collegiate degree, Law degree, admission to the New York State Bar, and proof of good standing within any jurisdiction admitted, are all required. 2-3 years' experience as a practicing attorney, within a law firm or in-house legal department required. Financial services and/or mortgage banking experience is preferred. Compliance experience and a thorough understanding of federal and state regulations and statutes governing mortgage banking a plus. Experience reviewing, editing and drafting contracts and litigation pleadings and conducting research. Court experience a plus. Displays excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, and possesses the ability to successfully troubleshoot issues. Strong sense of accountability and attention to detail, taking ownership over projects and responsibilities, and helping resolve issues proactively. Looking for a professional practitioner who can take direction, work independently and work efficiently under time constraints. Capability to multitask, properly prioritize and consistently deliver superior work product. Strong computer and phone skills required, most notably demonstrating a strong ability to research using internet resources, as well as a proven proficiency utilizing Excel and Word programs. Maintains strict confidentiality in all aspects of client, staff, customer and vendor information.
