Attorney1 The candidate will work directly with business unit management and designated subordinates to provide guidance to asses and mitigate risk at an account, loan, or multiple account or loan level. Will work with Senior Attorneys to provide legal advice to business units relative to the impact, risk associated with or appropriate method to implement legal or regulatory requirements. These requirements may result from regulations, statues, internal audit requirements, Bank-specific orders from regulators or other similar types of rules or formal guidance. Analyzing federal and state statutory and regulatory changes that impact retail and wholesale mortgage lending, mortgage servicing, default mortgage servicing, service provider oversight, the purchase and sale of closed residential mortgage loans and mortgage servicing rights, home equity and non-secured consumer lending products, wealth management and/or retail deposits. Provided assistance to other groups within the Legal Department through specific legal guidance or by participating on committees established by General Counsel. Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Completes all required compliance training. Maintains knowledge of and adhere to Bank’s internal compliance policies and procedures. Takes responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have JD Degree from an accredited Law School required. Should have current member in good standing with any State Bar. Must become admitted to the Michigan State Bar within one year of employment. Should have 2+ years of practical experience at a law firm or within a corporate legal department. Experience with banking, lending, servicing preferred. Knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations of general application that have an impact on consumers doing business with a financial institution. Ability to conduct independent legal analysis of laws and legal risks and provide and explain such analysis to senior attorneys is needed. Ability to work autonomously and in collaboration with other members of the legal team, as well as various teams outside of the department in order to meet and support corporate goals and initiatives is preferred. Prior experience providing legal advice to a mortgage lender or servicer, retail bank is essential.
