ProfileExecutive Director Duties: Lead a team of advocates, campaigners, and organizers in campaigns to protect clean air, clean water and open spaces. Will hire and supervise up to 9 Program Directors, each of whom will lead a team focused on an environmental issue. Work with the Director of each issue team to: Write multi-year and annual strategic plans, Identify and develop programs and campaigns, Develop a budget and fundraising plan, Hire and develop staff and future leadership. Will be responsible for directing this program expansion. Representing Environment America in regular gatherings of the leadership of other major national environmental groups. We are known by our allies in the environmental community for our role in facilitating national coalitions around important environmental campaigns. Meeting with decision-makers in Washington, DC and state governments to advocate on our campaigns. Speaking at national media events, testifying in Congress, and serving as a spokesperson in media interviews. Grantseeking and meeting with other large donors. Reports to the Chairman and Acting President and is accountable to the Board of Environment America and to the Public Interest Network’s leadership. Will ensure legal and financial compliance.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Related advanced degrees such as a JD Degree or Master’s may count towards experience. 10 years of experience in campaign or program development, grassroots organizing, organization building, and/or campaign politics. A track record that illustrates a strong work ethic and an uncompromising commitment to getting the job done. An effective team-builder who can recruit high-level staff, provide training and development, and shape a committed group. An experienced communicator with excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Creative, effective at solving complex problems, and a strategic thinker who can evaluate a competitive landscape and craft a multi-year plan. A good people-person/listener with a track record of successful hiring and staff retention. Detail-oriented: able to keep a budget and remain on top of finances. Can oversee and drive a business plan.
