Manager of Associate Development and Recruiting Duties: Design, execute, evaluate, and improve recruiting and professional development programs and services related to recruiting and integrating counsel and associates. Will have responsibility for: (1) summer associate, lateral associate and counsel hiring in New York and at least one additional market outside of the United States; (2) associate and counsel development; and (3) the New York summer associate program. The Manager will work collaboratively and directly with the relevant partners, senior staff, and other stakeholders around the firm to identify needs and ensure the programs and services are world-class and support continuous lawyer development. Work with practice group leaders and key office stakeholders to determine hiring needs and devise effective strategy to source candidates. Develop deep understanding of the firm’s business model, areas of focus and practice groups to be able to communicate those messages to candidates and external recruiters. Provide top-notch recruiting experience from start to finish, from initial touchpoint to offer acceptance and onboarding. Cultivate relationships with external recruiters and law school alumni counselors. Draft business justification for lateral associates and counsel hires. Review candidate resumes, coordinate interview schedules, and assess interview evaluations. Interview candidates, and serve as the primary firm liaison for all candidate inquiries. Prepare offer letters and coordinate ongoing outreach efforts to secure acceptance. Manage candidate reimbursements for travel and expenses. Track lateral attorney referrals. Summer Associate Hiring and Summer Program. Lead Hiring Committee meetings throughout the year related to OCI and summer program. Cultivate and maintain relationships with law schools. Collaborate with Hiring Committee members to devise annual OCI and law school campus outreach strategy. Manage OCI process from start to finish, including resume selection, OCI schedules, callback meetings, callback days, extending offers, and tracking our callback, offer and accept rates. Prepare all necessary NALP forms, hiring criteria narratives, and one-page resumes. Propose, develop and execute law school campus outreach events throughout the fall – spring Design and execute the summer associate work evaluation process, review all evaluations in real time, and draft review summaries for Hiring Partner. Plan and execute all summer program social events. Associate and Counsel Development. Refine and execute programs and processes related to associate and counsel orientation. Develop and refine existing strategies and programs to advance associate and counsel integration to the firm. Work with partners and other stakeholders to develop programs to accelerate lawyer development. Other. Develop and manage NYC annual recruiting budget. Work closely with Director of Administration and participate as a member of the NYC Management Team. Participate in firmwide recruiting initiatives. Manage Legal Recruiting Coordinator. Work with the Marketing Department on various initiatives. Keep abreast of key market issues and trends. Track information and analyze competitive data, best practices, and trends to make recommendations to adopt when appropriate.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: A JD Degree or an undergraduate degree and 5 years’ experience in a similar senior role in a professional services firm. Professional development/talent management experience or a JD Degree and 5+ years’ experience as a practicing lawyer in a law firm. Must have a JD Degree and 2+ years of experience in a senior professional development/talent management role in a law firm or other professional services environment. Creative, curious, and innovative; takes initiative to identify and translate best practices from other firms and industries into viable firm initiatives. Knowledge of law firm business model principles and legal industry trends and challenges. Able to assimilate information quickly in order to grasp larger concepts and details, and apply it in other settings. Able to grasp quickly the culture and organizational structure of the firm. Desire for increasingly challenging projects and heightened responsibility/visibility. Excellent communications (written and oral) and interpersonal skills with lawyers, all levels of administrative staff, and contacts outside the firm. Sophisticated analytical and quantitative abilities (e.g., able to collect and use data to make decisions, including ability to use tools such as Excel). Strong judgment and ability to respect, protect, and maintain highly confidential and sensitive information. Excellent collaboration, facilitation, influencing, and organizational skills, with the ability to work proactively to obtain information and develop the consensus needed to make decisions. Strong attention to detail combined with ability to develop big-picture goals. Able to work both independently and collaboratively with professionals and staff at all levels. Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously without frequent prompting. Able to work under tight deadlines and maintain poise under pressure.
