ProfileAttorney - Cybersecurity Responsibilities: Develop or maintain legal positions on cybersecurity issues, including information sharing, incident response, software assurance, critical infrastructure protection, and on cybercrime issues, exclusive of lawful access and compliance. Provides legal support to internal expert teams engaging on cybersecurity or cybercrime laws or policies around the world; serve as a legal subject matter expertise on cybersecurity or cybercrime laws or regulations impacting Microsoft and legal guidance on comments and filings to the US government and other government regulatory bodies globally. Provide subject matter expertise to Microsoft legal or technical teams seeking cybersecurity or cybercrime expertise to protect customers or support customer questions and needs. Provide legal counsel to the Government Security Program team, including the development and negotiation of contracts that protect Microsoft information and enable consistent global engagement with governments around the world.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD from an accredited U.S. law school, or equivalent non-U.S. law Degree desired. Willingness to travel for customer negotiations and relevant engagements. 5+ years as a practicing attorney. 3+ years of experience in the cybersecurity legal field. Experience in the security community, including advising on complex technical security issues. Desired: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a broad range of teams and diverse views and cultures, and experience in driving collaboration and consensus. Demonstrated ability to think creatively to provide guidance that advances customers interests, protects Microsoft, and maintain commitment to upholding company principles. Experience and interest in dealing with complex technology concepts and issues involving software and cloud services, including an understanding of software development. Ability to communicate complicated legal advice clearly and succinctly to a variety of different audiences (internal and external) from a diverse set of disciplines (lawyers, project managers, engineers, business executives, government officials, policymakers, academics, reporters) and cultures. Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and working on cutting-edge legal and policy matters where ambiguity is the rule rather than the exception. Comfortable with detailed technical questions, and the ability to ask questions to understand technology issues as they relate to compliance needs and interests. Familiarity with internet-based communications technology and cloud services; a working knowledge of Microsoft’s products and services desirable, with the need to understand company product and service strategies and their interrelationship to privacy and security interests. Willingness to experiment and try new things, and learn quickly from failure and/or mistakes. Ability and willingness to adapt quickly as the legal, policy and factual landscape continues to evolve. The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. This position requires verification of US Citizenship to meet security requirements.
