Counsel - Global Trade Compliance The candidate will report to the Director of Global Trade for the Space and Airborne Systems Business of the company. Will provide legal and strategic business advice to internal clients and help create a culture of compliance excellence within GBS. The work involves the various export/import compliance activities of the Global Trade function to provide consistent legal advice, governance, training, investigation and preparation of voluntary disclosures, and oversight in trade compliance matters in the SAS Business. Interface with SAS and GTC leadership, supervise other compliance specialists as needed, conduct prompt reporting, investigation, and remediation of compliance incidents, and help implement corporate policies and procedures.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a J.D. degree from a top law school. Must have 8+ years of relevant export and import compliance experience, including ITAR, EAR, customs, shipping, and tariff harmonization. Should have 6+ years of law firm or in-house legal experience in export compliance, including substantial experience preparing voluntary disclosure and conducting investigations, internal audits and assessments. Direct knowledge of US import and export regulations, including Customs, ITAR, and EAR regulations is needed. Understanding of the relationships among DDTC, BIS, CBP, OFAC, and related government agencies is essential. Should be a member in good standing of a US State Bar. Familiarity with work in a global context, and ability to travel abroad on occasion is needed. Experience in preparing voluntary disclosures, reviewing export licenses, conducting M&A due diligence, and managing outside counsel is preferred.
