Counsel, Group Protection The candidate will provide general legal advice and compliance support to Group Protection Division, which develops, sells and administers group insurance products. Provide legal advice and support on the development, implementation and oversight of firm’s Group Protection products and services, including claims, operations, underwriting marketing and distribution. Manage the review and drafting of Group Protection contracts and provide advice to business areas in consultation with other Legal staff. Research, analyze and advise on Group Protection sales and distribution matters including broker matters, sales issues and benefit and compensation plans. Research, analyze and advise on e-business technology matters to assess risk and ensure that new trends/developments are appropriately incorporated in Group Protection products and services. Research, analyze and advise on information sharing and privacy requirements to assess risk and ensuring that appropriate safeguards are appropriately incorporated in Group Protection products and services. Lead and/or participate on special projects and work with project team to create and improve products and services. Lead and collaborate with other Legal and Compliance staff to develop mutually beneficial outcomes to issues impacting the business. Lead and collaborate with internal and external partners to develop mutually beneficial outcomes to issues impacting the business. Participate as a member of Group Protection Legal and Compliance leadership team. Participate as a member of Group Protection business leadership team. Identify and communicate legal exposure and risk in a timely and proactive manner to key stakeholders. Research, analyze and provide legal advice regarding laws, regulations and case law; and prepare analysis and advice for key stakeholders.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have Undergraduate Degree. Should have JD degree from ABA-accredited law school and current License to practice law. Should have 5-7 years of experience in Law that directly aligns with the responsibilities of the position. Educational experience or proficiency in: Corporate legal and compliance matters; Employee benefits, life insurance or other financial services; Drafting and reviewing contracts and agreements; Drafting policies and procedures; Advising and working directly with clients.
