Profile

Director of Marketing and Business Development Duties: Review the firm’s existing strategic business development plans/programs/processes and make recommendations on improvements or modifications. Collaborate with attorneys and practice groups to develop and implement business development plans/programs to expand the firm’s existing business and attract new clients. Provide individual business development and client relations coaching to attorneys. Develop and implement marketing and branding programs consistent with the firm’s strategic goals. Oversee and manage the firm’s marketing and business development team. Engage in research, analysis, and intelligence gathering, especially regarding emerging market and industry trends. Help create and foster a business development culture that embraces a strategic, proactive, and client-centric approach. Coordinate the firm’s RFP process and assist attorneys in the preparation of legal services proposals. Identify cross-selling opportunities and other sources of potential business and clients, and assist in their development and implementation. Develop and coordinate public relations, community, and media relationships and communications. Plan, promote, coordinate, support, and evaluate firm-sponsored meetings and events. Plan and administer the marketing budget, tracking spending and ROI. Assist attorneys in the identification and development of speaking engagements, writing opportunities, seminars and CLEs, conferences and trade shows. Oversee the redesign and modernization of the firm’s website; maintain and improve content of the firm’s website, marketing materials, and social media presence. Oversee maintenance of client data, including championing and maximizing the firm’s implementation and effective use of its customer relationship management software. Research, recommend, implement, and maximize appropriate technologies in the firm’s marketing and business development efforts.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: BS or BA degree required; MBA, JD Degree , or advanced degree preferred. 10+ years of business development and marketing experience in a professional services environment. Strong leadership, collaborative, and consensus-building skills to work closely and successfully with attorneys, staff, managers, clients, and business executives. Professional, tactful, honest, respectful, courteous, cooperative, and client-centric spirit that embraces diversity and inclusion. Strong business acumen and a track record of good decision making. Strong project management and event-planning abilities, including demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize, analyze, organize, attend to detail, follow through, delegate, and negotiate. Exemplary presentation, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills. Website, blog, and social media savvy with demonstrated proficiency in social media channels.

The firm needs to put more emphasis on making sure that there is a chance for some associates to move up with the firm, as the firm might miss an opportunity to keep associates that will benefit them should those individuals choose another firm to work for with greater opportunities.

Pros : I found that the culture the firm sets in the workplace assists new associates in understanding what is expected of them, which immediately set me on the right path right after starting to work for the firm. This resulted in my work benefiting. The pay and benefits were also excellent.
Cons : Due to tradition, it seemed as if the hierarchy was static. The superiors were, for the most part, set in their positions. I don't see the firm as a place to stay for those who eventually want to progress in their careers.
