Counsel – Regulatory Law The candidate assists with providing legal services in connection with assigned department. Selects and manage outside counsel representing firm in legal proceedings, and where appropriate, appear directly as counsel. Hold or develop expertise in regulatory programs that relate to regulatory law, with a special emphasis on FERC, pipeline regulation and pipeline safety regulations. Handles and oversees the legal aspects and regulatory requirements related to pipeline tariffs both in the instance of firm owned and/or operated pipelines and in the instances where firm is a shipper. Handles administrative proceedings and litigation related to the pipeline regulatory areas of law. Handles governmental enforcement and legal proceedings relating to the pipeline regulatory areas of law. Investigates and evaluates potential claims by the company, where appropriate. Coordinates discovery, including the preparation of witnesses and the collection of documents and other information. Supports and undertake other legal work, including litigation, administrative law and commercial activities that may be requested by management. Must have 5 years of experience in legal practice. Should have Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.), or higher, from four-year accredited college or university. Law degree from an accredited law school is required. Admitted to the practice of law in Texas or other relevant state or be otherwise eligible to practice law in such state is needed. Experience analyzing, interpreting, counseling and advocating complex international and domestic law issues that impact the company is must. Experience in relevant function with another major public corporation or a law firm is preferred. Experience with mathematics and the ability to analyze complicated tariff and accounting cost structures is desired. Litigation experience is a plus.
