Business Analyst, Project Management Office Duties: Works in the Project Management Office (PMO) providing deliverables across all aspects of project planning and execution for a variety of strategic initiatives, including Legal Project Management (LPM). Will also be an integral part of the development, implementation, and delivery of Legal Project Management tools and processes. Reports directly to the Associate Director, Project Management and will have significant interactions with the financial systems reporting team, attorneys, and directors. Review and analyze complex data related to billing and fee arrangements, work activities, tasks, completion times, and other financial information. Identify matter cost and timeline drivers based on current and historical matters. Effectively communicate legal concepts and practices to Finance staff; effectively communicate business terms, analysis, and planning to partners and legal staff, assisting them in viewing their practice activities and results from a business / financial management perspective. Assist with development of LPM tools and processes, applying analysis and project management concepts to law practice in a way that improves operational efficiency, forecasting, and effectiveness. Develop and maintain a broad and deep knowledge of law firm business analysis, especially of billing, pricing and financial planning models. Review and analyze competitive rate and industry related data; present results and recommendations to firm leadership. Applies detailed classification knowledge in the continuous improvement of the factors that drive matter cost and timelines.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Undergraduate degree, JD Degree or MBA preferred or equivalent work experience. 1+ year of law firm experience with litigation matter lifecycle expertise preferred or experience providing legal project management consulting in a law firm environment. PMP/PRINCE2, CBAP and Six Sigma preferred. Strong business acumen and analytical ability, particularly in connection with legal services pricing and billing, and ability to connect report data and statistics with business outcomes for analysis and forecasting. Understanding of project management principles in a law firm environment (litigation or transactional background preferred) with an ability to incorporate them into specific plans for handling legal matters, e.g., building processes to measure rates, realization, productivity, leverage and margin, capturing and applying statistics to develop budgets, pricing plans and fee arrangements. Excellent oral and written communication skills with all levels in the firm, demonstrating an ability to explain complex concepts to professionals of different backgrounds with confidence.. Strong organizational and multitasking skills required to assess and digest large amounts of data on multiple concurrent projects for different practice groups. Ability to work independently and multi-task in a fluid environment across diverse teams in a large organizational infrastructure. Effective listening, presentation and facilitation skills. Highly motivated self-starter requiring minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and good business judgment. Ability to deal effectively with change in a fast paced environment. Must be well organized, comprehend business requirements and proactively identify systems and reporting capabilities to address those requirements. Must be results-oriented, dependable, adhere to established time commitments and demonstrate strong customer service attributes and the ability to deliver results. Ability to ask the right questions and effectively analyze the data once obtained.

I would like to see management start to downsize in terms of the number of cases that we take on. Other than that I think we could use some more interns to help us out.

Pros : Everyone is very professional and always quick to lend a hand. The pay is also great and everyone really cares about their clients here.
Cons : It is extremely fast paced. We are always busy working on both small and big cases and it can be overwhelming at times being in the office.
