Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs Duties: Serve as a senior team member on the Business & Legal Affairs team and will provide day-to-day business and legal affairs expertise for Productions company, with a focus on original development and production. Structures, negotiates and drafts complex development, production and distribution deals (e.g., rights acquisitions, overall development and talent deals, format licenses, producer, director and writer agreements, production company deals, studio license agreements, co-production deals, venue and location releases, integrated marketing and promotions agreements, etc.). Leads and engages in strategic deal model and policy-making discussions. Performs and/or leads day-to-day legal production work for first-run syndicated series as well as presentations, pilots, specials and weekly series. Advises and clients and production executives regarding production-related legal matters. Reviews and approves legal contracts and assists with the resolution of pre-litigation matters. Provides complex production risk assessments and assists with departmental administration matters.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: JD Degree from an ABA accredited law school required. Active member in good standing with the California State Bar. 7+ years’ experience in negotiating and drafting variety of television and/or other media deals including production and distribution. Television and other media production clearance experience required. Distribution experience preferred. Some experience with employment and/or labor law preferred. Extensive knowledge of television production clearance required. 7-10+ years of on-point work experience (ideally in a studio, network, entertainment law firm or production company environment) and possess a comprehensive working knowledge of television industry agreements, guild and union regulations (SAG-AFTRA, DGA and WGA), contract law and intellectual property rights (as applicable to the entertainment industry) along with excellent drafting, negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to build strong internal client relationships, effectively advise senior-level executives under conditions of uncertainty, high-pressure and/or high-risk and generate strong client satisfaction through strategic thinking and firm decision-making. Must have some management experience and expertise as he/she may be asked to supervise and/or train junior executives, contract managers and/or legal assistants.
