Staff Attorney Under the direction of the President/CEO, the candidate will provide support and advice on legal matters related to the general business operations of three company affiliates of the agency ensuring legal and ethical compliance with local, state, and federal laws. Advise the President/CEO, Board of Directors, Senior Staff and other affiliate staff (as necessary) on matters relating to the general business operations of the agency. Ensure each affiliate’s legal and ethical compliance with local, state and federal laws. Participate in legal matters that affect each named affiliate in all areas including but not limited to: corporate governance, contracts, real estate, healthcare, patient privacy laws, human resources, insurance, risk management, security, and proposed legislation, regulations, and public interest litigation that may affect the named affiliates. Draft, review, and assist in the maintenance of legal documents including contracts, leases, policies and procedures and other documents. Supervise contract administrator. Act as liaison with outside counsel on any claims and legal issues brought against the named affiliates. May be required to represent the named affiliates in litigation and other legal proceedings. Develop and implement special projects as requested by the President/CEO. Assist with legal strategies and decision making with the agency as required, including participation in the statewide General Counsel calls and travel to meetings where necessary. Provide training to affiliate staff as needed and as directed by the President/CEO. Coordinate with Compliance and HIPAA Privacy and Security Officer(s) as needed and as directed by the President/CEO. Support risk and quality management by proactively communicating identified risks to President/CEO in order to minimize risk when possible. Maintain the highest level of professional and ethical standards and to act in compliance with both the letter and spirit of all applicable laws and regulations. Doctorate of Jurisprudence and license to practice law in the State of California required. 5+ years as general in-house counsel, preferably for a nonprofit, OR 7+ years in private practice with a specialty in business law required. Healthcare experience preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook required. Ability: to communicate effectively with multiple audiences; to work independently and as a team member; to prioritize and manage numerous projects simultaneously; to perform at the highest level of customer service required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with social media required. Excellent: interpersonal skills, including negotiation and facilitation skills; verbal, written and presentation communication skills required.
