Assistant Counsel The candidate will assist in the areas of litigation, contract review and development, general higher education issues, and other areas of the law that may arise and are assigned. Will interact with varying constituencies across campus, therefore, the ability to cultivate and maintain relationships is essential. General research and review of legal issues as they arise; administrative and supervisory duties relating to outside counsel management, including legal billing; preparation of litigation-related reports; litigation-related duties including those relating to administrative matters, subpoenas, requests for information, collections matters, claim investigation, fact-gathering, all aspects of discovery efforts, file management; liaison with other University Departments with regard to legal matters; review, negotiate and draft contracts; representation of University’s legal interests at internal and external meetings. Must have Admission to the New York State Bar. Must have Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school with a record of strong academic performance. Must have 1-3 years of experience practicing law, preferably with litigation experience. Must approach work with a commitment to excellence, and inspire confidence with all constituents. Must have proven record as a motivated self-starter. Must have superb communication and writing skills. Must represent the University in an ethical and professional manner. Excellent time management and prioritization skills is essential.
