Staff Attorney The candidate will be responsible for providing legal research and advice, both proactively and reactively, in all assigned subject areas. Accountable for timely, accurate and effective legal guidance in assigned subject areas. Provide legal advice and counsel on assigned subject areas. Provide legal advice to company's consumer products and services finance operations including account servicing, bankruptcy, collections, and repossession functions. This includes filing collections, recovery and other creditors’ rights litigation when necessary. Recommend and implement best practices and proactive strategies consistent with legal requirements and emerging trends to minimize liability and promote the Company’s strategic plan. Work with stakeholders to develop, review and revise, as required, company policies and procedures in assigned subject areas. Prepare reports for clients and/or department leaders and provide recommendations, as appropriate and as directed. Conduct legal research and analysis as directed. Assist real estate group as directed, including reviewing real estate leases and purchase and sale agreements. Work with Compliance Department, where necessary to ensure company compliance with consumer finance and protection laws. Lead various other Legal projects and duties, including compliance policies and procedures. Assist in managing outside counsel in assigned subject areas as directed. Draft, review and negotiate contracts as directed. Investigate and respond to legal claims in assigned subject areas. Review and approve discovery documents, litigation pleadings, motions and briefs prepared by outside or internal counsel, as directed. Attend depositions, mediations, conferences, trials and meetings with regulators as necessary and as directed. Identify recurring issues in assigned subject areas and provide advice and counsel to legal department leaders on matters that could impact the organization. Pursue ongoing professional development in current areas of responsibility and in relevant, emerging areas of the law. Devise and conduct employee training as needed on relevant issues. Assist Chief Legal Officer with identifying and developing department initiatives as appropriate. Demonstrate company’s Core and Growth Values in the performance of all job functions. License to practice law and in good standing under the Bar of Florida, required. Juris Doctorate from an accredited ABA law school, required. 1 – 3 years of legal experience, preferably in a corporate legal department, including 2+ years with significant client contact required. Experience: in consumer financial protection laws; with real estate transactions, business contracts, and/or intellectual property matters; interacting with all levels of corporate management required. Excellent: interpersonal skills; analytical and problem solving skills; Communication Skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate with multiple individuals, including attorneys, senior management, and business associates required. Computer literacy to include Data Entry, Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook required.
