Sr. Director, Business & Legal Affairs The candidate will handle both business decision-making and a traditional legal role. Draft and negotiate agreements for the various divisions, including artist royalty deals, net profit split deals, distribution deals with record labels and artists, technology deals, and all manner of related ancillary agreements, as well as help craft the strategy and negotiate the commercial terms related to acquisitions, JVs and equity investments. Provide guidance and strategic advice to Senior Management; advise on and execute business strategy for the various divisions; and liaise with and provide guidance to other departments (including Labels, Affiliates, Business Development, Finance, Corporate and Legal). Negotiate and draft agreements and amendments with artists, management companies, third party record labels, and other rights holders. Provide ongoing legal advice and guidance to the various divisions, including answering questions and assisting with requests regarding agreements. Advise and assist Senior Management with developing and executing each division’s strategy and business plans. Work closely with a Contracts Administrator to ensure that each of the divisions agreements are accurately summarized and communicated to the relevant departments. Participate in the development, implementation, and compliance with the various division’s contract-related policies and procedures. J.D. with 6+ years of transactional legal experience required. 3+ years of experience working as a music lawyer is preferred. Familiarity with digital retailers, technology, M&A, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships is preferred. Must be in good standing in New York. Refined and well-practiced drafting skills required. Strong negotiation skills and experience - in particular, the ability to manage negotiations with outside counsel, in-house counsel, individuals, and tech startups required. Strong interpersonal skills to successfully interface with senior management required.
