Assistant Regional Counsel - South Region The candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice for the Company’s South operating region in the United States, as directed by the Associate General Counsel. Responsible for managing legal matters relating to the operations of that region, including environmental and safety (MSHA/OSHA) compliance, real estate, purchasing and product sales transactions at the regional level litigation arising from regional operations, including antitrust, commercial, employment and personal injury litigation, and the review and preparation of various commercial agreements. Responsibilities include the management of outside law firms providing legal services for the region. May be required to perform special legal assignments from time to time as directed by the Associate General Counsel. Draft and review various contracts, including purchase orders, contracts, and various real estate documents, and negotiating with counterparty in connection therewith. Research and analyze various legal issues and write summaries for submission to Associate General Counsel - South Region. Assist in gathering documentation and information in response to subpoenas and litigation discovery requests. Assist in developing company policies, procedures, and guidelines on legal issues. Assist in analyzing and resolving legal disputes with various parties. Research, anticipate, and mitigate legal risks. Prepare summaries of the status of litigation and other legal matters for the Associate General Counsel - South Region. Represent company in legal proceedings (administrative boards, court trials etc.). Handle other legal matters and duties as assigned by the Associate General Counsel - South Region. A Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution and admission to the bar in good standing in a state in the United States required. 5+ years of total experience, 3+ years with a law firm is preferred. Experience in the construction or construction materials industry (cement, aggregates and/or building materials) is preferred. A general understanding of the legal issues that commonly arise in the ordinary course of business operations, together with the ability to quickly learn and grasp the legal importance of new and unfamiliar issues, is necessary for the position required.
