ProfileStaff Attorney, Immigration Unit Duties: Representing immigrant victims of crime throughout the state and in immigration court. Provide direct services to clients in the specialty areas of immigration law and family law. Co-counsel and/or assist other legal services staff and private attorneys in cases in area(s) of specialization. Maintain a thorough knowledge of immigration law. Keep abreast of developments in the law. Maintain contacts with the most likely referral sources for immigration cases in the State of Delaware. Supervise paralegals statewide. Conduct community education programs. Participate in appropriate training. Produce and distribute educational materials. Assist with the preparation and presentation of data and advocacy reports to funding sources. Assist with other programs and events as assigned. Perform any other reasonable duties as directed.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Delaware Bar admission preferred or admission to the bar of another state is preferred or must be willing to sit for the next scheduled Delaware Bar Exam. Experience working with low income people and people from diverse backgrounds is preferred. Must have a demonstrated commitment to civil rights and/or public interest work. Excellent verbal, written communication, analytical, and counseling skills are required. Must be able to exhibit patience, tact and respect when dealing with the general public and staff. Must be able to conduct small and large group presentations; must have excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills; must be comfortable with a heavy caseload of immigration cases Must have computer literacy. Must be a team player and be comfortable with remote supervision. Must have own transportation and be willing to travel within the entire State of Delaware for community presentations and meetings and in Philadelphia for hearings (travel expenses reimbursed). Bilingual preferred (particularly Spanish).
