Director, Pro Bono Attorney Program The candidate will design and manage a first-of-its-kind pro bono volunteer program. Will harness that outpouring of support to create a new kind of pro bono volunteer program. Will design and manage pro bono projects that harness the support of volunteer attorneys to expand the civil rights impact of the work. In consultation with existing staff, will identify areas of work where pro bono volunteers can perform large-scale work to support the impact litigation. Will then recruit volunteers to engage in that pro bono work, develop training materials in consultation with existing staff to teach the relevant substantive area of law to pro bono volunteers, and develop partnership opportunities with law firms and in-house law departments, law schools/clinics, and bar associations. Working with other program staff to develop pro bono project areas. Conducting outreach to legal service providers, bar associations, and non-profits in the community to design program model. Interacting with law firms to coordinate volunteer recruitment. Developing curriculum to train volunteers. Conducting volunteer trainings; planning and overseeing training events. Tracking cases and program outcomes. Developing reports on program results. Support development of existing pro bono co-counseling arrangements, as needed.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Admitted to practice law in the State of California; One or more of the following: 3-5 years litigation experience in an area of civil rights litigation ripe for pro bono program involvement; 3-5 years of experience as a legal educator, whether through teaching at a law school, continuing legal education training, or elsewhere; 3-5 years of experience as a pro bono coordinator at a legal services organization or a law firm; Excellent public speaking skills; Strong leadership skills; must be able to work independently and as part of a team; Passionate about defending human rights; Willingness to take on other duties that may be assigned as needed.
Funded: 3 years, with a possibility for extension based on future funding.
